Consider, for just a moment, the influence of your words. We communicate with words all the time and they’re a powerful vehicle to convey ideas, feelings, and experiences. They’re used to persuade, teach, and inspire. But here’s the thing: not all of us have the ability to insightfully craft words and ideas into poetry. The word poet actually translates to “maker” in Greek, and not all of us can make the world around us come alive through words. But Leslie Norris could, and he was good at it.

He loved words even as a boy, and his professional career encompassed both education and writing. When talking about the poetry writing process, he reflected that he would “get every part of [the poem] as far as my abilities allow into the final shape, and there should be no mark of me in the poem, no mark of me. And yet, of course, it has my breath, it has my voice, it has the skin of my knees, it has everything.”

When he wrote, he’d get a poem down on paper and then set it aside for a while. Then, once some time had passed, he’d revisit it again. Looking at something he’d written with fresh eyes allowed him to gauge whether there was really something there to be developed. If so, he’d begin to work at it and thresh it out. But, if the text no longer had vibrancy, he’d let it go.

In today’s world, we have the opportunity to appreciate the arts in ways previous generations couldn’t. The ease of communication has made the sharing of information—images, words, and ideas—as simple as a click on a keyboard. We are able to take virtual tours of museums, watch interviews, enjoy poetry readings with famous writers, and appreciate live music performances without even leaving the comforts of our living rooms. However, it still doesn’t really replicate the opportunity of actually being there, in person, with an author, poet, or musician. Attending a live concert or event makes the experience all the more memorable.

As motorcoach providers, we don’t just take care of tour group transportation. Over the last several years, we have been focused on letting customers know that we provide group transportation for any type of situation, and that includes transportation to cultural events. If you’re interested in taking a large group to a poetry reading or the symphony, we’d love to be the way your group gets there!
